In a surprising move, Arjun Ram Meghwal has been appointed as the new Law Minister, replacing Kiren Rijiju, who has been shifted to the Ministry of Earth Sciences. Known for his troubleshooter skills, Rijiju's demotion comes just a year before the national election.
Meghwal, who already holds the position of Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs, will now also have independent charge of the Law Ministry, making him the first non-cabinet rank Law Minister in recent history.
The change was announced through a brief statement from the President's House, and Rijiju updated his Twitter bio accordingly.
