SC Collegium Recommends 26 Judges for Allahabad HC, Including SC Lawyers Garima Prashad & Swarupama Chaturvedi

REEDLAW Legal News Network reports: In a significant development, the Supreme Court Collegium, in its meeting held on 1 September 2025, recommended the appointment of 26 individuals as judges of the Allahabad High Court. The list includes 12 members from the Bar and 14 from the subordinate judiciary, following detailed interactions with 33 candidates to address existing vacancies in the High Court.


Among the recommended names, four are women, marking a significant stride towards enhancing gender diversity in the judiciary. Notably, two women from the Bar—Senior Advocates Garima Prashad and Swarupama Chaturvedi, both practising before the Supreme Court—have been proposed for elevation. Additionally, two women judicial officers, Vani Ranjan Agrawal and Babita Rani, have also been recommended for judgeship, reflecting the Collegium’s commitment to inclusivity and representation.


The lawyers recommended for elevation include Vivek Saran, Adnan Ahmad, Vivek Kumar Singh, Garima Prashad, Sudhanshu Chauhan, Abdhesh Kumar Chaudhary, Swarupama Chaturvedi, Jai Krishna Upadhyay, Siddharth Nandan, Kunal Ravi Singh, Indrajeet Shukla, and Satya Veer Singh.


The judicial officers recommended are Dr. Ajay Kumar-II, Chawan Prakash, Divesh Chandra Samant, Prashant Mishra-I, Tarun Saxena, Rajeev Bharti, Padam Narain Mishra, Lakshmi Kant Shukla, Jai Prakash Tiwari, Devendra Singh-I, Sanjiv Kumar, Vani Ranjan Agrawal, Achal Sachdev, and Babita Rani.


This recommendation reflects the Collegium’s effort to address the high vacancy position in the Allahabad High Court and ensure a balance of representation from both the Bar and the subordinate judiciary.
